Take a creative break and reconnect with your inner calm through our Art for Relaxation & Mindfulness series. Each session offers a peaceful space to explore new materials and techniques—no experience needed!
Over the course of the session, we’ll be diving into:
A 3-Part Creative Journaling & Paper Arts Series
Join us for a creative journey exploring the world of journals, handmade books, collage, and mixed media techniques! Each week we’ll create layered and interactive pages while experimenting with paper techniques, collage, stitching, texture, and creative storytelling.
Students will explore ways to unify their designs using the elements of art, thoughtful color palettes, repetition, rhythm, and layering techniques while incorporating dimensional details like embroidery floss, beads, charms, texture paste, dried flowers, and more.
Bring an existing journal to expand on or use one of our ready-made journals available in class. Join the full series with a class package or drop in for individual sessions.
Week 1 — May 13
Foundations & Creative Pages
Build the foundation of your journal while exploring painted backgrounds, layered collage, creative paper techniques, tabs, pockets, and page design. We’ll experiment with color palettes, composition, and visual storytelling while creating beautiful textured pages full of personality.
Week 2 — May 20
Interactive Pages & Layered Details
Create interactive journal elements including waterfall pages, fold-outs, hidden pockets, flip pages, and tuck spots. We’ll also begin adding dimensional details using stitching, embroidery floss, beads, charms, texture paste, and other mixed media elements to bring movement and texture into your work.
Week 3 — May 27
Collage Books & Finishing Touches
Explore collage as storytelling while creating layered spreads and mini collage books using handmade papers, vintage imagery, text, paint, and found materials. Finish your pieces with bookmarks, stitched details, dried flowers, embellishments, and special finishing techniques that make your journal uniquely your own.

Art for Relaxation and Mindfulness (age 18+) is perfect for anyone looking to explore and connect with their creative side. Participants will practice various research-based stress-reducing techniques to create art pieces and discover the power of creation for stress management! No previous experience is needed. All levels are welcome. All materials will be provided, and topics will be geared to participants' needs and interests. In each session, participants will leave with art pieces, resources, and information for optional further learning.
